In today’s Anderson Independent, letters to the editor.
If character were elastic, some politicians wouldn’t have enough to make suspenders for a parakeet. Some run for office to advance their own selfish agendas. Once elected, often after spending gobs of money to influence uninformed voters, they themselves are influenced by money. Politicians should wear suits like NASCAR drivers showing their sponsorships.
When someone who is not up to the job gets elected, I think to myself that his mother should have thrown him away and kept the stork.
But sometimes there is a candidate who does appear to have integrity, a person who may relate to the rest of us. Sometimes there is a candidate who has already demonstrated the kind of responsibility, accountability, persistence and intelligence in private life that could also help make a good representative.
Jane Dyer, a candidate for Congress to represent those of us in the 3rd Congressional District from Abbeville through Easley and Anderson to Clemson, might be the best candidate I have read about in a long time.
Regardless of the outcome of the November election, Dyer seems to be a citizen to admire and I’m beginning to believe she would represent all of us very well.
